Profile

PHOOEY Architects are young, enthusiastic & a progressive design practice.

They enjoy a coffee in the morning & a beer at night. In between, they are inspired & motivated by their diverse city community.

PHOOEY Architects are a multi-disciplinary architecture, design & production team who take the time to ensure the appropriate delivery of their craft & a bit of physical building on the side. Their experience extends from master planning into furniture design.

PHOOEY Architects are adapting to the urban heat island effect; aim to create zero waste; entertained by the sobriety of global warming; & engaged in the cultural identity of our sustainable future.

As advocate / activists, PHOOEY Architects actively explore resilience, comfort & aesthetic strategies that incorporate a campaign of awareness, feedback design, recycled form & a re-value of consumption waste.

They have completed innovative projects including a demonstration sustainable community centre; shipping container children's activity centre; sporting pavilion trying to start a mexican wave; hair salon with a surreal hair chandelier; & couches rolled sculpturally from recycled carpet in office tower foyers.

Internationally, their project the Children's Activity Centre at Skinners Playground in Australia was Highly Commended in the category New & Old at the World Architecture Festival Awards (Barcelona 2008). It also received an Honourable Mention in the AR Awards for Emerging Architecture (United Kingdom 2007). In Australia, the project has received the National & State Awards for Small Project Architecture (AIA), Sustainability Award (AIA), Premier's Design Mark for Cultural Architecture & Mayor's Award at the City of Port Phillip 10th Design & Development Awards.

PHOOEY Architects have been published worldwide in architecture, sustainability & fashion. They have been described by others as ... ugly ... fabulously whimsical ... deadly serious about social responsibility & environmental awareness ... a billboard for sustainability ... post-fab ... trash-glamour!

The Directors, Peter Ho & Emma Young, have more than twenty years of design & project architectural experience in some of the world's leading architecture practices & development agencies. They are actively engaged in design education, discourse, philanthropy & entertainment.
