South Melbourne ESD Housing
The brief was to design a housing development that makes a positive contribution towards the chronic shortage of equitable housing, at a time when the demand for socially provided housing has never been higher.
This project collects energy from the sun & water from the sky. it transforms & re-uses these elements for & through a community of people. Not an efficient use of resources, but an effective one.
The design response provides an affordable, equitable, marketable recognisable public supported housing that meets the budget of the authority, allows celebration of the project & results in a manageable, successful state owned housing resource.
This is a housing community that fosters human health, allows sustainable relationships to develop between humans & between humans & their environment. It encourages health, beauty & knowledge and provides a place where people can independently participate in their society.
